What Is A Christian? | The Apostle's Creed | Spring 2026

May 4, 11, 18, 25, June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, July 6 at 4 PM (PT)/7 PM (ET) | Are you a new believer eager to grow in your faith? Have you been away from the church for a while and want to reconnect with solid biblical truth? Or are you stepping away from a low-doctrine environment, legalism, or even a cult-like group and seeking clarity and assurance in the historic Christian faith?

This 10-week live Zoom course revives the ancient practice of catechesis—structured, Scripture-saturated teaching through questions and answers—to help adults build a firm, joyful foundation in the Christian faith. We will explore the core truths of Christianity in a Bible-focused, supportive, discussion-based setting.

This class will focus on a deep dive into "The Apostle's Creed." This is the foundation of what Christians believe and what it means to be a Christian.

What to Expect
• Live, interactive Zoom sessions (90 minutes weekly)
• Bible study, teaching, large group discussion and small group discussion
• Practical discipleship tools: Scripture readings, short memorization and application questions
• Welcoming space with room for honest questions. Perfect for beginners or those rebuilding their faith.

Join us as we follow the early church pattern of devoting ourselves "to the apostles' teaching" (Acts 2:42) and build a faith that endures.
Thank you for your interest in "What Is a Christian?" online course. This is the first in a sequence of three courses taught by public theologian, Dr. Krista Bontrager.

The other two courses ("The Lord's Prayer" and "Ten Commandments") will be offered later this year. While each one is a stand-alone course, they can also be taken in a sequence.

Registering for the course is easy. There are just three steps.

Step 1: Complete the registration form below.

– Tuition: $175; includes 10 live class meetings + assignments
– Class size limited to 30 students, in order to facilitate discussion. First come, first served.

Step 2: Obtain your textbooks.
• To Be a Christian: An Anglican Catechism
(Free option: You can print out your own copy or just selected pages, by accessing the PDF here.)
The Apostles' Creed: A Guide to the Ancient Catechism, by Ben Myers
• A physical copy of the Bible. Here are the ones I recommend: NIV, NASB, or ESV

Step 3: Accept the invitation to join Google Classroom the week before the class begins. It will be sent to the email address that you provide below.

A word about the class format:

This class uses a "flipped classroom" approach to maximize students' learning and growth.

Students complete weekly homework in advance—such as watching a teaching video or looking up key Scriptures. This prepares students to fully engage when we meet live on Zoom each week. During our class sessions, we'll come together for interactive large-group discussion, followed by smaller breakout rooms for deeper conversation and personal application.

This blend of teaching, mentorship and community discipleship creates a supportive environment where students can process what they are learning, ask questions and grow in confidence alongside others.

A word about the course's approach:
Although our main textbook is written from an Anglican perspective, the vast majority of the book is cross-denominational. The focus throughout the class will be on laying a strong foundation for the Faith across denominational perspectives based on what beliefs we share in common as Christians as articulated in The Apostle's Creed.

On those issues where it is Anglican-specific (e.g., baptism), we will provide a space to discuss the distinctives of various denominational approaches.
