Many Christians react negatively to the word "theology," believing that it involves dry, fruitless debates about minute points of doctrine. I see it quite differently. I believe that everyone is a theologian. Why? Because any time we think about a teaching in the Bible, we are engaging in theology. Systematic theology is simply the historic, time-tested method of topically organizing the key themes of the Bible into a coherent framework.
The "Church & Last Things" online class is the third in a sequence of three courses designed to introduce students into the classical categories of systematic theology. You do not need to have taken the previous courses in order to take this class. This is a theology class for regular people, designed to help you disciple your children and lead your small group with more confidence and clarity.
Topics:
• Doctrine of the Holy Spirit
• Doctrine of the church
• End times
• Eternal state (heaven/hell)
What You Get: This is a self-paced, asynchronous course. Lessons consist of video teachings, printable lecture notes so you can follow along, and homework assignments. You will have access to the course materials for 12 months.
Textbooks: These books will be used in all three courses.
– Bible Doctrine, by Wayne Grudem (This text is an abridged version of Grudem’s larger text, Systematic Theology. You can purchase either one. They follow the same topic order. I strongly recommend purchasing the physical copy so you can mark it up.)
– Charts of Christian Theology & Doctrine, by H. Wayne House
– Handbook of Basic Bible Texts, by John Jefferson Davis
– The Bible (ESV, NASB, or NIV recommended)
